Overview
Do you know someone with autism, Down syndrome or cerebral palsy? These are some of the better-known intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), but there are hundreds more. The Arc – Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties is a powerful voice for all people with I/DD, working daily to create opportunities for individuals and drive systemic change. We believe deeply that all people are valued members of their communities and that their contributions create a better world for all of us.
Our work in individual advocacy allows us to support individuals and families, providing them with the tools necessary to move in the direction of their own choosing, as people's right to self-determination is also highly valued here.
The Arc – Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties also provides invaluable trainings to the public at no charge. Many families first connect with us through our award winning Mobilizing Families program, an eight week training that gives families the tools they need to navigate the complex world of developmental disabilities. We also offer Life After High School and Guardianship Training, which offer important information not covered through Mobilizing Families.
Finally, The Arc – Jefferson, Clear Creek & Gilpin Counties does a tremendous amount of systemic advocacy. Informed by our daily work with individuals, our work to create systems change covers many areas. We work directly with state and local government officials to affect policy changes in Colorado. We also work with school systems, law enforcement, community services, and other nonprofits to help to create a community that understands and embraces people with developmental disabilities. This work has long-term impact on the quality of life of people with disabilities locally, statewide, and even nationally.
