We are looking for people who feel strongly about The Arc's mission, regardless of their connection to the IDD community. The Arc’s Bylaws also require that "at least one third of the Board of Directors shall be persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), relatives or legal guardians of persons with IDD".

As a potential candidate for the Board of Directors of The Arc, it is important that you  understand the expectations of all Board Members. Some of these expectations are  listed below:

  • Leadership, governance and oversight that ensures future-thinking, strategic planning, financial accountability, and attending and participating in monthly Board meetings, as well as committee meetings.
  • Community engagement by representing The Arc in the community and acting as an ambassador for the organization at public events.
  • Fundraising by making a personal financial contribution and participating in donor stewardship in partnership with The Arc staff.

In return, you can expect the Board to provide:

  • Onboarding/orientation to introduce you to Board leadership, governance responsibilities and your role.
  • A peer mentor, an established Board member who will meet with you at least monthly
  • Information such as the Board packet, committee agendas and other communication sent out in advance of meetings
  • Support so that you are able to perform your Board commitments well.
