Take Action: Speak Up about Why Cuts to Medicaid are Harmful!

Starting in 2026, the elected officials who represent us in the Colorado legislature are going to be making difficult decisions about Medicaid spending in the upcoming years.

Due to recent federal changes, the state will have less money to spend on Medicaid going forward. Lawmakers will have to decide how to balance the state budget with less money, and they might consider cutting optional Medicaid services.

It is important that our legislators understand that cuts to Colorado Medicaid services for people with disabilities will be harmful to our community.

Here’s how you can tell Colorado Legislators what Colorado Medicaid means to you and others by email.

Step 1: Click on this link to find your legislators. Enter your home address:

https://leg.colorado.gov/find-my-legislator

After you enter your home address, you’ll see the Senator and the Representative that represent your district.

  • Make note of your Senator’s name and email address.
  • Make note of your Representative’s name and email address.
  • Tip: Keep the webpage open so you can look at it as you write your messages.

Step 2: Open the tool you use to send email. Then write 2 email messages, one for your Senator and one for your Representative.

Here’s an example of what you can say.

  • Tip 1: You can use the same email message for your Senator and Representative. Just change the greeting at the top.
  • Tip 2: You can copy and paste what’s below into your email to get started.
  • Fill in the parts in blue with the name of the person you’re writing to.
  • Fill in the parts in red with your thoughts.

Dear Senator [Last Name]

Or

Dear Representative [Last Name],

My name is [Your Name], and I live in [Your City/Town]. I am a person with a disability and I depend on Medicaid for [Describe how you use Medicaid. For example: doctor visits, equipment, personal care].

If the state makes cuts to Medicaid services, it will make it harder for me to [Describe the problem. For example: stay healthy, go to school, live independently]. I want you to know how important these services are for me and for many people in our community.

Please vote to protect Medicaid services so people like me can have the care and support we need.

Thank you for listening,

[Your Name]

[Your Address with Zip Code]

Step 3: Add a subject line to your messages. Here’s a suggestion:

Subject: Please Protect Medicaid Services

Step 4: Send your email messages to the email address you found in step one.

  • Send the message with “Dear Senator [Last Name]” to your Senator’s email address.
  • Send the message with “Dear Representative [Last Name]” to your Representative’s email address.

After you hit send on your messages, you’re done! If you have family and friends who might be willing to share their opinions, please share this page with them. The more messages we send, the louder our voices will be!
