Welcoming Our New Board Member: Cate Humbert
We’re thrilled to welcome Cate Humbert to our board of directors!
Cate joined our board this past summer, having previously served for more than a year as a volunteer on our chapter’s Resource Development Committee. Professionally, her experience has centered on empowering and supporting people with disabilities. Having graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation, Cate has interned at the National Sports Center for the Disabled, worked as a direct care professional and job coach, and helped lead inclusion work at summer camps. Today, she is a care manager who assists people with disabilities with important tasks, such as applying for benefits.
Cate’s passion for the disability community began when she was in the sixth grade. “Growing up, I had a lot of classmates who were bullied for the way they looked or how they spoke. That’s what drew me to want to be there and support. I’ve always wanted to be someone who participated and helped, especially with the disability community,” Cate said. When she learned about The Arc-JCC&GC, Cate saw board service as a great opportunity to be part of a community that shares these same values.
Additionally, Cate is passionate about improving mental health outcomes, particularly for people with disabilities. “That is a really big piece of people’s lives,” she said, adding that she hopes her passion for mental health will be a beneficial contribution to the board’s work.
When she isn’t working, Cate likes to spend her time reading, camping, doing yoga, and going to concerts.
Welcome to the team, Cate!
