New Staff Profile: Andrew Mott, Adult Advocate

Last October, we welcomed Andrew Mott to our team as an Adult Advocate! We are thrilled to have Andrew on-board and look forward to all he will bring to The Arc’s adult advocacy team.
Andrew first began working with the disability community as a direct support professional (DSP) for Imagine!, a local nonprofit service agency. During his tenure there, he moved into a role as a supported employment counsellor and then a role as an employment specialist, eventually bringing this array of experience to his new role at The Arc.
As an adult advocate, Andrew has been supporting adults with IDD with advocacy requests, which may center on topics like navigating Medicaid and Social Security, exploring housing options, and more.
“I really like the fact that we provide a free service for people and can really take as much time as is necessary to support someone,” Andrew explained. “Our advocacy approach ensures that the individual is being heard and is making their own decisions.”
One of the most rewarding parts of this position has been making a difference for those The Arc serves, he said.
“It’s really important that this advocacy route exists because it could be the difference between someone trying to find a job, move somewhere they want to move, or access a resource or benefit that they weren’t necessarily sure they'd be able to do on their own or with their current support,” he said.
He added that he’s enjoyed the chance to collaborate closely with the other Arc advocates. “I'm lucky to have such a supportive and knowledgeable team,” he said. “It’s great to have that support network.”
In his free time, Andrew enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, biking, skiing, and camping. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, his cat, and friends and family.
Welcome to the team, Andrew!
