3: Healthcare & Insurance
Healthcare and insurance are a significant issue for families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Because the medical needs of a child with a disability are often far more significant than a typical child, parents have develop a much deeper understanding of the how insurance affects their healthcare experience. During this session, families will learn the fundamentals of health insurance; how to acquire insurance; how to understand your coverage and exclusions; how to use (or "access") your insurance; the parents' responsibilities in this arena; and strategies for resolving healthcare- and insurance-related concerns.
